Chapter 20 Secret
Chapter 20 Secret
Shen Rui paused in his steps.
He was a little nervous, and even more wary of his roommate—his intuition told him that something was wrong with this person, especially when the other person was smiling; he always felt that Su Yumin had ill intentions.
"Let's find something to eat," Shen Rui said.
He walked into the kitchen under Su Yumin's gaze, and then, following Yan Xun's instructions, glanced at the garbage in the kitchen.
The kitchen contained trash from the previous few days, mostly food packaging bags, indicating that the homeowner did not have a habit of regularly taking out the trash.
He searched the lockers and other places again, but found nothing more than the supplies he had received that day.
After returning to this room last night, he and Su Yumin searched around for a while and deduced that the food would eventually run into problems, so they wanted to get as much food as possible.
No, no, no.
Shen Rui searched many places, but still couldn't find the food he had hidden before.
He knew Yan Xun wouldn't ask that question suddenly; the other party had probably discovered something in room 404...
It wasn't until he searched through every part of the house, even the living room, that he finally realized one thing: room 908 contained no extra food besides the supplies they had brought back.
"Did Yan Xun find something to eat in the room?" Su Yumin suddenly asked.
"..." Shen Rui turned to look at Su Yumin, who was still sitting on the sofa without moving. "He didn't say anything."
"He didn't say." Su Yumin smiled enigmatically, and it was unclear whether he believed Shen Rui's story. He looked his roommate up and down. "What kind of deal did you two make?"
Shen Rui didn't speak; he knew that saying more would only lead to more mistakes, so he simply remained silent.
"What a coincidence."
"Yan Xun called you as soon as the system announcement came out."
"He completed mission 1?"
“He made a deal with you for Mission 1.” Su Yumin muttered to himself, “He promised you that he would tell you the answer to Mission 1, and then you would help him find something in 908.”
"I saw you rummaging through the trash can just now."
“We’re looking for food right now.” Su Yumin frowned, looking somewhat troubled. “I’m really bad at deciphering…”
Why don't you just tell me?
As he spoke, he stretched out his hand, and the table next to Shen Rui instantly turned into countless pieces.
The objects scattered across the ground instantly, making a sound.
Su Yumin leaned back on the sofa, "A very useful ability..."
"【Paper Shredder】, isn't my ability quite interesting?" Su Yumin asked.
"Are you threatening me?" Shen Rui glanced at the shattered pieces of a table beside him, which were no longer recognizable as a table.
“It’s a very friendly discussion,” Su Yumin said, gesturing for Shen Rui to make his own choice.
……
When Gui Yuchong received Shen Rui's call, he had already finished showering and come out.
Yan Xun's hand wound had already healed... He put on his headphones and answered the phone—
"Hi."
The voice of another player from room 908 came from across the room.
"Wrong number," Yan Xun said.
He glanced back at Gui Yuchong, who was changing clothes in the bedroom, opened the bedroom door, and walked into the living room.
For some reason, he always subconsciously wanted to avoid Gui Yuchong.
"If it's a stolen phone, please return it to the owner," Yan Xun said to Su Yumin on the other end of the phone.
"He seems quite willing to give it to me," Su Yumin said nonchalantly. "You asked Shen Rui to help you find clues, do you think I wouldn't get involved?"
Yan Xun knew, of course, that Su Yumin would get involved. The reason he asked Shen Rui to go find her was simply because he felt that the other party was more reliable and wouldn't cause trouble.
"Give the phone to Shen Rui." Yan Xun was too lazy to waste words with Su Yumin.
"I don't have that much time."
Yan Xun vaguely heard the sound of teeth grinding on the other end of the phone. Soon, after a rustling sound, Shen Rui appeared on the other end of the phone.
"There were leftover food scraps in the kitchen trash can."
"The instant noodle container was also in the trash can."
“It looks like it hasn’t been cleaned for a few days,” Shen Rui said methodically. “But there’s no leftover food in room 908, only what we got from the management office in the last two days.”
"I've completed my task; now it's your turn to reap the rewards."
Yan Xun was not surprised by Shen Rui's answer... He quickly gave the answer to Task 1 and then hung up the phone.
Then the sound of mission completion echoed through the building again. Gui Yuchong, who was in the bedroom, seemed to be startled by the noise. He opened the door and came out, looking at Yan Xun who was holding his phone and seemed to be thinking about something.
"...Did a player just complete the quest?" Gui Yuchong asked cautiously.
"That sounds like it."
Yan Xun said.
He turned to look at Gui Yuchong, "I think Shen Rui is that fake player."
He told Gui Yuchong the answer he already knew, and then observed the other's reaction.
As soon as Yan Xun finished speaking, Gui Yuchong showed a shocked expression, as if he hadn't expected Shen Rui to be the imposter—it looked just like his reaction when he learned of the imposter's identity in the novel.
But this is not normal, Yan Xun thought.
“It’s not just Shen Rui,” Yan Xun added, “I’m actually a fake too.”
Gui Yuchong was a beat slow to react. Before he could even be surprised that Yan Xun was also a fake, he heard the other party ask a new question—
Don't you think this is very abnormal?
He looked at Yan Xun with some puzzlement, "What's wrong?"
“There are six of us entering the instance.” Yan Xun pointed to himself, “I’m the fake one.”
"Shen Rui is also a hypocrite."
Without even needing to guess, he knew that Gui Yuchong and Su Yumin were most likely imposters as well.
He sought Shen Rui's help simply to find out if the two people in room 908 would eat.
Now that Yan Xun knows the answer, they will eat.
But those in room 404 seemed to have no need for that—of course, he was referring to the owners of room 404 before the players entered the instance.
But I was really hungry at 9:08.
Why did the owner of room 404 store so much food that they didn't eat?
Because there are other secrets?
“I think Task 1 should be like this,” Yan Xun slowly told Gui Yuchong, sharing his guess.
"All players are pseudo-humans in this instance world."
“We replaced the original residents of Meimei Building, impersonating them, but we are different from the original residents.”
For example, players have a system, players have special abilities, players are not people of this world, they are different from everyone else in the MeiMei Building - they have replaced the room owner.
For the Mei Mei Building and this copy.
The players are the imposters who silently enter the Meimei Building and "kill" the room's owner.
“This is my guess for the answer to Task 1: all the players are fake humans,” Yan Xun said to Gui Yuchong.
As for why the people in room 404 don't need to eat, Yan Xun thinks it's probably related to mission 2.
This is the secret of the Mei Mei Building.
