Chapter 213 Reaching the Top of the Mountain
Chapter 213 Reaching the Top of the Mountain
When Yan Lingxiao and Feng Yanan arrived at the foot of Jing'an Temple, the midday sun had already spread all over the land, and the golden light shone through the mountains and forests, adding a bit of solemnity and mystery to the temple. The carriage they were riding in slowly stopped in a spacious open space, and the surrounding scenery gradually appeared before their eyes.
The open space was filled with all kinds of carriages, from ornately decorated carriages for nobles to simple and practical carriages for merchants. People were chatting or resting between the carriages, creating a busy and harmonious scene. The air was filled with the faint smell of incense and the aroma of food wafting from afar.
The crowd at the foot of Jing'an Temple has become bustling with people coming and going, and it is very lively.
Yan Lingxiao and Feng Yanan got off the carriage and stretched their muscles. They looked up at the temple on the top of the mountain. The eaves and corners of the temple were shining in the sun, as if telling a thousand years of history and stories. Yan Lingxiao gently pulled Feng Yanan's sleeve, signaling her to follow his steps and head to the top of the mountain together.
Walking up the winding mountain road, you will occasionally pass by tourists coming down the mountain.
Along the way, they can also see some believers kneeling devoutly in front of a small temple on the side of the road, with their hands clasped together and their eyes closed in prayer.
As they approached the top of the mountain, the crowd gradually thinned out. The trees on both sides of the mountain road became more dense, and the sunlight shone through the gaps between the leaves, creating mottled light and shadows on the ground. The air was filled with the fresh scent of grass and trees.
Feng Yanan and Yan Lingxiao finally climbed to the top of the mountain and stood in front of the Jing'an Temple, which has a long history and is very popular. The wind on the top of the mountain blew gently, bringing the faint sandalwood scent from the temple, which made people feel peaceful.
Yan Lingxiao looked at Feng Yanan, his eyes full of concern, and asked softly, "Are you tired? Go take a rest first?" Jing'an Temple was very popular due to the generous donations from the royal family and nobles. It was also far from the capital, so there were special rooms in the temple for the royal relatives and officials to rest when they came to burn incense and pray.
Feng Yanan shook her head slightly and replied with a smile: "Not bad!" She lowered her voice and said awkwardly: "I am a little hungry?"
Yan Lingxiao looked at her lovingly and was about to speak when a young Taoist priest came hurriedly over. He was wearing a grey robe with a yellow belt around his waist. His expression was both respectful and enthusiastic. He walked briskly to Feng Yanan and Yan Lingxiao, bowed slightly, and said softly, "My two benefactors, I will take you to the resting room."
Feng Yanan and Yan Lingxiao looked at each other, followed the little Taoist priest through the corridors of the temple, walked through a quiet bamboo forest, and came to a quiet small courtyard. The small courtyard was full of various flowers, and the fragrance of flowers was refreshing.
The young Taoist priest pushed open a wooden door. The room was decorated simply and elegantly. The bed was clean and tidy. There was a small table by the window with tea sets and some scriptures on it. The young Taoist priest said respectfully, "Lady donor, this is the room prepared for you. If you need anything, just tell me and I will come right away."
Feng Yanan nodded gratefully, and the young Taoist priest bowed again, turned around and said to Yan Lingxiao: "Only female donors live here!" His voice was calm and clear, and every word seemed to come from the bottom of his heart. He stretched out a hand, with his fingers slightly bent, pointing to a quiet path. The path was lined with green bamboos, and the bamboo leaves rustled in the night, as if whispering. He bowed and said: "This little monk will wait for you to go to your residence!"
Then, the young Taoist turned around and motioned Yan Lingxiao to follow him. He walked with steady steps, and the stone pavement under his feet made a slight sound, which formed a sharp contrast with the silence around him. His robe fluttered gently as he walked, as if dancing with the night breeze.
They passed through several bamboo forests and around a quiet pond, where lotus flowers swayed gently, emitting a faint fragrance. Finally, they came to another courtyard, which was brightly lit and more spacious than the donor's residence.
The young Taoist stopped, turned to Yan Lingxiao and said, "Mr. Benefactor, this is your residence." He still had a gentle smile on his face, and his eyes revealed care and respect for Yan Lingxiao.
Yan Lingxiao looked around and saw that the courtyard was clean and tidy, and the rooms were well laid out. He nodded in thanks and then walked into the room. Then he heard the little Taoist priest's voice: "If the donor needs anything, just tell me!"
"Go prepare a lunch for the lady just now!"
"Okay, please wait a moment!" The young Taoist priest said this and bowed and left!
