Chapter 264
Chapter 264
"It's winter and everyone is indoors with the doors and windows closed. How could I possibly see it?" Shen Hui'e glanced at him elegantly and said, "Drinking and having fun, what kind of man is that? I don't need to tell you!" She pointed to her ears and said, "My ears can still hear."
"No, no." Shen Changsheng said quickly, "Hold on and let's go." He raised the whip and said, "Go, go!"
"Then what should we do?" Shen Changsheng asked while driving.
"Should we take action?" Huang Zhongchang looked at her and asked.
"We have to look at the barracks first." Shen Hui'e said as her body swayed with the carriage.
"We can't enter the barracks," Huang Zhongchang kindly reminded her, "and we won't be able to find any useful information."
"You'll know if you take a look from the outside." Shen Hui'e said as she looked at them with her shiny black eyes.
"What can you see?" Huang Zhongchang asked curiously.
"You can see a lot." Shen Hui'e said as she looked at them with a smile.
"We can only stop here. We can't go any further." Shen Changsheng pulled the reins to stop the carriage, pointed the whip at the far wall ahead and said, "The barracks are ahead."
Shen Hui'e stood on the shaft of the carriage and looked over. "Where is the arrow tower?"
"Yes! It's very difficult to break in." Shen Changsheng straightened up and said.
"There's no one on the arrow tower!" Shen Hui'e narrowed her eyes and said, "There should be people on the arrow tower day and night."
"Yes! There are people standing guard and patrolling our camp day and night." Huang Zhongchang's eyes suddenly widened when he heard this.
"Let's go!" Shen Hui'e looked at her elder brother and said.
"I can go a little further. There is no one on their arrow tower." Shen Changsheng said as he gripped the reins in his hand.
"Goodbye, don't get caught and cause unnecessary trouble." Shen Hui'e looked at him with deep and penetrating eyes and said, "I've already read it and learned a lot of information."
"Okay then!" Shen Changsheng turned his horse around and drove away from the military camp.
Huang Zhongchang leaned on the carriage and looked back. The barracks were only a black dot in his eyes. He then asked, "What did you see?"
"Their combat effectiveness has been greatly reduced." Shen Hui'e said as she looked at them with clear eyes.
"It's because there is no sentry on the arrow tower." Shen Changsheng raised his eyebrows slightly.
"Not only that!" Shen Hui'e looked at them with her dark eyes and said, "No one has dealt with the hay outside the wall." She looked at Huang Zhongchang and said, "Our base..."
"Clear up the hay and rotten branches. Make sure to keep the base clean." Huang Zhongchang said immediately after hearing this.
"And there aren't many footprints on this road." Shen Hui'e pointed at the loess road under the carriage with her index finger.
"What does this mean?" Shen Changsheng turned his head and looked at her in confusion.
"Aren't you coming out for training?" Shen Hui'e said as she looked at them with raised eyebrows.
"Isn't it possible to train this in the barracks?" Huang Zhongchang argued.
"You can say that, but how do you explain the other footprints on the ground?" Shen Hui'e pointed to the yellow soil.
Shen Changsheng slowed down and lowered his head to look at the yellow earth.
Huang Zhongchang looked at the footprints on the ground, then at his own big feet, "This footprint is smaller than mine." He stared at her feet again, "This seems to be a woman's foot." He stood up and looked at the barracks that were no longer in his sight, "Brother, is this road only the barracks? Does it lead to other places?"
"There is only a military camp at the end of the road." Shen Changsheng blinked and looked at him. Suddenly, his eyes widened like copper bells. "Why would a woman go to a military camp?"
"What do you think?" Shen Hui'e looked at them unhappily and said, "I never speculate on people's hearts with the greatest malice, but the most terrifying thing is the human heart." She snorted and said, "It's impossible for these women to wash their clothes."
"Uh..." Huang Zhongchang looked around and didn't dare to look at her.
"If you want to know whether my guess is right, just go to the shack and ask." Shen Hui'e closed her eyes and said, "Let the child tell everything about the two steamed buns."
"Leave this matter to me!" Shen Changsheng said solemnly.
Compared to when he came, he was relatively relaxed, but when he left, he looked much more serious.
The carriage arrived outside the city gate, and Shen Changsheng stopped the carriage and said, "I'll be back soon."
"Let me go with you!" Huang Zhongchang said as he jumped out of the car.
"You should stay and accompany your second sister!" Shen Changsheng said without thinking, "It's not safe here for a single woman."
"No one can hurt Madam." Huang Zhongchang glanced at her and said.
"In the eyes of outsiders, my second sister is just a weak woman." Shen Changsheng looked at him seriously and said, "It's not like I haven't been to this shack before."
"Well then!" Huang Zhongchang had no choice but to say, "Brother-in-law, be careful."
"I know." Shen Changsheng gave them a reassuring look and strode towards the shack.
"Do you want to get into the carriage? It's cold outside." Huang Zhongchang said to her as he looked at her sitting on the shaft of the carriage.
"No need!" Shen Hui'e looked at him with bright eyes and shook her head slightly, "The sun is fine." She said while looking at the rising sun.
"If our guess is correct, this barracks will be ruined." Huang Zhongchang looked at her with cold eyes and said.
"Hmm!" Shen Hui'e nodded slightly when she heard that.
"This is a good thing for us. Soldiers without fighting ability are nothing to worry about." Huang Zhongchang looked at her with sparkling eyes and said, "We will kill them like chopping melons and vegetables. Not a single piece of armor will be left."
"Don't take it lightly." Shen Hui'e looked at him seriously and said, "We haven't been in there to see it, so we can't make any rash judgments."
"I know, I know." Huang Zhongchang smiled and said, "How are we going to get in and see?"
"It's not easy to get in." Shen Hui'e said as she looked at the tall city wall behind her.
Huang Zhongchang followed her line of sight and said, "Yes! If we explore at night, this city wall will be a challenge." He then said, "It will freeze to death at night. It is easy to be discovered if you are alone."
"You still have to see me to feel at ease. What you hear from others may be a little distorted." Shen Hui'e said, looking at him with her deep and penetrating eyes.
"Seeing is believing, right?" Huang Zhongchang said, looking directly at her with his dark eyes.
"What you see may not be true. What if they are just acting for you?" Shen Hui'e said with a slight smile, curling the corners of her lips.
Huang Zhongchang smiled when he heard this and said, "Lure the snake out of its hole." Looking at her surprised look, he smiled and said, "This study is not in vain."
Shen Hui'e shook her head and laughed when she heard that, looking at him who was as energetic as a rooster.
"Oh! Big brother is back." Shen Hui'e raised her eyes and saw Shen Changsheng walking hurriedly towards her, followed by a young man.
"That kid looks familiar." Huang Zhongchang turned his head and looked over.
"That kid who blackmailed us for money." Shen Hui'e narrowed her eyes slightly and looked at them getting closer and closer.
"Brother!" Huang Zhongchang walked forward and said to his brother-in-law, his eyes falling on the young man one step behind him, his face full of questions.
Shen Hui'e looked the boy up and down. He had no new injuries on his body and seemed to be quite smart.
"Hello!" Shen Hui'e looked at him with eyes as gentle as jade.
"Plop..." The boy knelt down and kowtowed.
"Hey, hey! What are you doing?" Shen Hui'e was so frightened that she jumped off the carriage and avoided him. "Brother, brother, quickly pull the man up. A man's knees are as precious as gold."
Shen Changsheng lifted him up and said, "Hurry up and get up."
"I'm not a man, it's okay for you to kneel down!" She looked at her with her dark eyes and said, pretending to slide down.
"That won't work either. It's not allowed here." Shen Hui'e looked at her with her gentle eyes and said, "Kneel to the heavens, kneel to the earth, kneel to your parents. How can you kneel to someone like me who has nothing to do with you?"
"You are my second parent." She looked at her with her dark eyes and said firmly.
"This little girl is quite clever." Shen Hui'e looked at her tenderly and said, "Then get up and stand straight."
"Little girl, you don't have any new wounds on your body. You have protected yourself well." Shen Hui'e looked at her with her jade-like eyes and said.
"This is all caused by the hardships I have suffered." She looked at her and said with an innocent smile.
Seeing this smile made Shen Hui'e feel bitter. She wondered how much she had suffered to be able to protect herself so well.
"What about the thing your brother asked you to find out?" Shen Hui'e changed the subject.
"Just ask her." Shen Changsheng pointed at the little girl with his index finger and said.
"You know?" Shen Hui'e raised her eyebrows and looked at her.
"You want to know about the military camp. I know something about it." The little girl's clear eyes turned dark in an instant. There was not a trace of light. Not even the sun could shine in.
"Can you tell us?" Shen Hui'e bent down slightly and looked at the little girl at eye level with her.
"What do you want to know?" the little girl looked at her inquiringly.
Shen Hui'e's dark eyes flickered as she heard this and looked at her and said, "What can you tell us?"
The little girl is quite vigilant.
Shen Hui'e looked at her with her deep and clear eyes and said, "I want to know, are there any women in the military camp?"
There was a flash of shock in the little girl's eyes, and she said excitedly, "Can you come with me?"
"Okay!" Shen Hui'e responded readily.
"Madam?" Huang Zhongchang looked at her with some concern. Are you not afraid of being trapped by following others so rashly?
How come you don't have any guard at all? You look quite smart.
"I'm taking you to a mass grave." The little girl said sensitively.
Huang Zhongchang, who was exposed, looked around awkwardly, "Why go to a mass grave?"
"Here are the answers you want." The little girl said as she looked at them with a pale face.
"Let's go!" Shen Hui'e took a deep breath and looked at her and said.
Shen Hui'e and the others walked to the mass grave. When she saw the crows circling in the sky, she said, "The mass grave is just ahead. You should be mentally prepared."
"How do you know?" Shen Changsheng asked curiously.
"The crow is flying." Shen Hui'e said, pointing at the crow in the sky.
"Many people die where the old crow is." Shen Changsheng pursed his lips and said, feeling more uneasy.
