Chapter 131 Raid on the Taoist Temple

Chapter 131 Raid on the Taoist Temple

Lin Yueru turned around and left, her eyes once again falling on Cheng Yuwei, the jealousy in her eyes deepening. After she left the mansion, her brow furrowed, and she secretly made up her mind: "Cheng Yuwei, no matter who you are, one day I will make Brother Xiaotian understand who is the most suitable person to stand by his side."

Ling Xiaotian looked at Lin Yueru's back and sighed softly. Cheng Yuwei saw this, and although her heart ached, she understood that Ling Xiaotian wasn't someone who would be easily swayed. She approached him and said gently, "Xiaotian, we still have a lot of things to deal with. Don't let these trivial matters distract you."

Ling Xiaotian was stunned for a moment, then he held her hand and smiled: "Wei'er, your calmness makes me feel at ease."

Cheng Yuwei smiled faintly, and the two walked back to the room side by side to discuss countermeasures. She knew that the most important thing now was how to find clues about "Shadow" rather than worrying about those meaningless jealousies.

In the evening, Cheng Yuwei returned to her study and looked through the information she had collected from the Military Intelligence Department. Her mind was filled with thoughts: who was "Shadow"? Why would he choose this moment to attack Ling Xiaotian?

Just then, there was a knock on the door. Zhou Hao pushed the door open and walked in, holding a new report in his hand: "Madam, this is the information I just got from the informant."

Cheng Yuwei took the report and carefully read through it, her brow furrowing ever deeper. The report mentioned that a figure had recently been spotted in an abandoned Taoist temple outside the city, seemingly connected to the "Shadow." This intelligence gave her a thrill. Perhaps this was a breakthrough.

"Zhou Hao, we must investigate this Taoist temple as soon as possible, but we must be careful and not alert the enemy." Cheng Yuwei closed the document with a firm look.

Zhou Hao nodded, a hint of admiration flashing in his eyes: "Understood, I will arrange everything."

As night fell, the Marshal's Mansion was shrouded in silence. Cheng Yuwei, however, had no desire to sleep. She walked into the courtyard, where the cool breeze soothed her a little. Ling Xiaotian's footsteps echoed from behind. He walked over to her, wearing a coat, and gently placed it on her shoulders.

"Why don't you rest?" His voice was low and gentle.

"I'm wondering, who is our opponent? Why does he hate you so much?" Cheng Yuwei looked at the night sky, her eyes flashing with thought.

Ling Xiaotian gently put his arm around her shoulders: "No matter who he is, we will not be defeated. With you by my side, I have infinite strength."

Cheng Yuwei turned her head and looked at him, her heart warmed, and the corners of her mouth rose slightly: "No matter what you face, I will be with you."

The two of them stared at each other, the night breeze mingled with the fragrance of flowers, capturing that moment of warmth beneath the starry sky. Meanwhile, in an abandoned Taoist temple outside the city, a dark figure stood before a dilapidated window, its gaze coldly gazing at the Marshal's Mansion in the distance.

"Ling Xiaotian, Cheng Yuwei, your peaceful days won't last long."

The next morning, Cheng Yuwei got up early, packed her luggage, and waited for Zhou Hao to report on the operation preparations. Ling Xiaotian watched her packing her bags, a hint of worry in his eyes: "Wei'er, this mission is full of dangers. Are you sure you want to go in person?"

"Xiaotian, I must go." Cheng Yuwei looked at him firmly, her eyes revealing an unquestionable determination. "This is an important clue for us to find 'Shadow'. I can't miss it."

Ling Xiaotian was silent for a moment, and finally sighed: "Okay, but you must be careful. I will mobilize manpower in the mansion to prevent any accidents."

Not long after, Zhou Hao came to the courtyard with several reliable men and nodded to Cheng Yuwei, "Madam, everything is ready. We can set off."

Cheng Yuwei nodded, put on her cloak, and quietly left the Marshal's Mansion with the others. Along the way, the convoy carefully avoided the patrolling guards and spies in the city and headed straight for the abandoned Taoist temple outside the city.

Outside the Taoist temple, the scene was desolate, with only the dead trees whimpering in the wind. Cheng Yuwei and Zhou Hao approached slowly with their men and discovered that there were indeed suspicious signs. There were fresh tire tracks and footprints on the ground, indicating that someone had been coming and going frequently recently.

"Everyone be careful, divide into two teams and search, don't miss any details." Cheng Yuwei whispered, her heart beating faster. She knew that if she was not careful, her whereabouts might be exposed.

The group dispersed, with Zhou Hao leading one group into the main hall of the Taoist temple, while Cheng Yuwei and another group searched the side halls. The air was filled with dust and the smell of decay, and a faint, eerie sound could be heard in the silence.

"Madam, there's a secret door here." A soldier lowered his voice and pointed to a wooden board in the corner that was almost covered with cobwebs. Cheng Yuwei walked forward and gently pushed it with her hand. The board actually creaked and slowly opened.

Behind the secret door was a deep underground passage, dimly lit by candlelight. Cheng Yuwei took a deep breath, turned to the soldier behind her and said, "Let's go down, but keep quiet."

At the end of the passage was a simple underground room. An oil lamp hung on the wall, casting a strange light on a man standing in the center. He wore a silver mask, stood tall, and his gaze swept over like a cold blade.

"It seems that Ling Xiaotian's clever wife has come to visit in person." The man's voice was low and hoarse. It was the "shadow" mentioned during the interrogation last night.

Cheng Yuwei was shocked, but she remained calm: "'Shadow', your tricks have ended here."

"Hahaha," Shadow sneered, his voice echoing in the basement, "Do you think you can stop me just by finding this place? You underestimated my power."

At this moment, hurried footsteps suddenly sounded in the passage. Zhou Hao and his men quickly arrived and surrounded Shadow. Shadow saw that the situation was not good, and a hint of cruelty flashed in his eyes. He suddenly raised his hand and slapped the wall. The room suddenly shook, as if a trap had been activated.

"Retreat quickly!" Cheng Yuwei shouted.
