Chapter 233: Exploring in practice: Can religion save the country?
Chapter 233: Exploring in practice: Can religion save the country?
Ming Dynasty, Zhengde 2nd year
Because Liu Jin usurped power and arrested more than 20 people including Nanjing Imperial Censor Dai Xian, Wang Shouren wrote a petition to plead for his release, which angered Liu Jin and he was demoted to the position of Postmaster General of Longchang Posthouse in Guizhou.
When Wang Shouren first arrived in Longchang, Guizhou, the scene of "thousands of mountains and thin clouds, and Miao and Liao people living together" made him realize what his mission was.
To enlighten and teach people.
Therefore, he no longer had any desire to leave the farm, but instead devoted himself to teaching the locals how to read and gain enlightenment.
Zhu Houzhao initially promoted the eunuch Liu Jin because he felt pressured by the civil officials, but later had to abandon Liu Jin after learning what Liu Jin had done.
Now in the second year of Zhengde, Zhu Houzhao hopes to find someone who shares the same ideals as him and fight alongside him.
Regardless of whether he was killed by civil officials as mentioned in the conspiracy theory, or he really died from improper medical treatment after drowning, he vowed to change the status quo of the Ming Dynasty.
"Go and bring me Wang Shouren's information." He finally met a smart person, and he was unwilling to give up.
What Lin Zexu said was not difficult to understand, but he did not expect that there would be people in the dynasty who had the same ideas as him.

【Regarding the book "Good Words to Admonish the World", I learned that it does not explain Christianity in a very dogmatic way, but only extracts some fragments from it, and also quotes many Confucian classics for explanation. This is a perfect combination of the East and the West. In addition, Hong Xiuquan was from Guangdong, and the book happened to describe the social outlook of Guangzhou. All of this made Hong Xiuquan better understand and accept foreign ideas.
However, the Christian knowledge he acquired from this book was actually very, very limited. It could even be said that it was a variant formed after many deletions and blends.
The founding of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom by Hong Xiuquan did not mean that he wanted to carry out anti-Qing actions. He became a devout believer in God and a disseminator of God's gospel.
The earliest believers were Hong's relatives and close friends. They were called witnesses of Hong Xiuquan's "Dingyou Strange Dream". Although it was very mysterious, it proved that Hong Xiuquan's dream and strange behavior were true. They began to believe in God like Hong Xiuquan.
With pious and simple hearts, they began to preach and spread religion everywhere.
At first, Hong Xiuquan and his followers had no selfish thoughts or ambitions. He firmly believed that he was a messenger sent by God to save the people.
<Historical practice has proven that rebellion through religion will not succeed>
<Are you talking about Zhang Jiao's Taiping Dao?>
<Alas, now that I see how pure their original intentions were, I think of the internecine fighting that took place later on [sigh]>
<It seems that the reputation of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom is getting better and better, but I still think they are just like a bunch of roughnecks who only care about fighting but not governing>
<If Hong Xiuquan and his people had developed into some scholars in the early days [laughing and crying]>
[Emperor Gaozu of Han Liu Bang: Well, then it is possible that Hong Xiuquan is the son of God, or the brother of something? It is really a myth.]
[Emperor Cao Cao of Wei: Isn’t this just another kind of Taiping Dao?]
[Liu Bei, Emperor Zhaolie of Han: Well, Zhang Jue misled the people, causing the Yellow Turban Rebellion, which caused decades of suffering for the people of the country... Alas, the Han Dynasty became even weaker because of this]
[Kublai Khan: The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom lacked scholars? That means the Qing Dynasty’s policy of keeping the people ignorant was successful. Without scholars to help, there would be no complete constitution.]
[Emperor Hongwu of the Ming Dynasty Zhu Yuanzhang: The Qing Dynasty is the sinner of China! The Opium War was about to start at this point, and the subsequent indemnities and cessions of territory are really shameless!]
……
The light curtain grants books and medicines...
Liu Che, who was already superstitious, believed in Hong Xiuquan's experience without a doubt.
Didn't the fact that Hong Xiuquan had a strange dream prove that he was the one who wanted to destroy the Qing Dynasty? However, the fact that he lost in the end made Liu Che feel conflicted.
If there are no gods in the world, how did the light curtain come to the Han Dynasty from 2024? But the light curtain claimed that there are indeed no gods in the world. But didn’t the light curtain admit that Hong Xiuquan’s dream was true?
...
Li Shimin asked Fang Xuanling and others, "Can the Taiping Dao be compared with the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom founded by Hong Xiuquan?"
"Zhang Jue initially spread the Taiping Dao and used talismans, water and incantations to cure people's illnesses. Your Majesty, if you do nothing after you get sick and just draw talismans and chant incantations, will it be useful?" Ma Zhou still actively participated.
Li Shimin didn't even think about it and shook his head, "Of course it won't work."
"The Taiping Dao misleads the people, and everything they do is rebellion. Zhang Jue is a demon, and the Taiping Dao is even more of a fraud."
"The Five Pecks of Rice Sect, which has been popular since the Jin Dynasty, is also like this."
The crowd also compared the Taiping Dao with other religions since the Han Dynasty. However, they were still hesitant to make a final judgment on the God Worshipping Religion that Guangmu was talking about.
...
student.
The light curtain hurt Zhu Yuanzhang again.
It is known that there will be no shortage of scholars in the Ming Dynasty, but once there are too many scholars, bad things will happen.
However, if we continue to train scholars using the current method, it seems that what we are training is a group of people who only study hard but are of no use.
Although the Qing Dynasty was not defeated by internal uprisings such as the Taiping Rebellion at that time, it was severely bullied by foreign countries, and the impact from the outside also led to its demise.
So how should it develop?
……
[The great change in Hong Xiuquan's thinking definitely did not happen in a day or two.
From April to November 1844, Hong Xiuquan began to preach everywhere. He knew that reading thousands of books is not as good as traveling thousands of miles. He understood this truth very well. By entering the world, he gained a deeper understanding of the truth.
During the period when he returned home after traveling in Guangxi, Hong Xiuquan created more than 50 articles, including "True Articles to Admonish the World", "Songs of a Hundred Righteousness", and "Returning from Evil to Good".
Let's take "One Hundred Righteous Songs" as an example. It was written in 1844 and has more than 400 words. The "right" in the title refers to "right way". Hong Xiuquan used historical figures as examples to emphasize that monarchs and ministers, fathers and sons, husbands and wives, men and women, and all kinds of people should abide by their duties and distinguish between good and evil.
We can see that Hong Xiuquan's early thoughts were still wrapped in Confucianism. He did not criticize Confucius or oppose the Qing Dynasty. In fact, for someone who had no systematic contact with Christianity and only understood Christianity through his own understanding, it was difficult for him to completely abandon the Confucianism that had bound him for more than 20 years.
Anyway, during this period, Hong Xiuquan really became a devout believer in God as he said, spreading the gospel of God everywhere. 】
<In fact, we can also see from this that the Chinese people's contact with foreign things has always been to adapt to local conditions. If Hong Xiuquan had received the complete Bible story at the beginning, there might not have been so many things later [covering face]>
<Reading thousands of books and traveling thousands of miles leads to the true truth. I thought of all the articles and poems I learned in my Chinese textbooks, but I just memorized them to cope with exams. When I traveled or lived in the future, I suddenly understood the meaning of what I learned before>
<The UP's entry point is to start with Hong Xiuquan's thoughts, which is quite novel. I originally thought that he would talk about the founding of the God Worshipping Society and various things in the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom>
<Ah, this is really hard to do [sigh]>
<At that time, people's thinking really developed step by step. There was the Taiping Rebellion, followed by the Hundred Days' Reform, and then the Xinhai Revolution, etc. The Chinese people never gave up looking for ways to save this land>
[Li Si, 30th year of Emperor Qin Shi Huang: Just as Zhou used feudal fiefdoms, practice has proven them unreliable. Qin used counties, and historical practice has proven them reliable.]
[Emperor Wen of Sui Yang Jian: That's right. The official selection system of the Han Dynasty was not good and had too many drawbacks. It was abandoned during the Wei and Jin Dynasties. However, the Nine-Rank System implemented during the Wei and Jin Dynasties also caused class solidification and was not conducive to governance. Therefore, the imperial examination system was established.]
[In the 25th year of Kaiyuan Period of Tang Dynasty, Li Bai said: Go out more often to see the great rivers of China and the people’s livelihood along the way]
[Du Fu in the 25th year of Kaiyuan in the Tang Dynasty: The lives of ordinary people in other places are different from those in Chang'an]
[Bai Juyi in the 13th year of the Yuanhe Period of the Tang Dynasty: Now I know why later generations hated Confucius, besides the fact that the Kong family hated him]
[Ming Hongwu Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang: Alas, at the end of the Qing Dynasty, the people were living in poverty. The Han people were looking for ways to save China, but the Manchu emperor only cared about the throne! The throne! The throne!]
[Qianlong Emperor of Qing Dynasty Aixinjueluo Hongli: It sounds as if you Zhu Ming don’t love the throne? ? ?]
[Emperor Yongle of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Di: Is our family the same as yours? At least our family will not abandon the Han people, nor will we be on guard against the Han people…]
[Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty Aixinjueluo Xuanye: Should we ask the people of the late Ming Dynasty whether they miss the Ming Dynasty?]
