Chapter 488 Pulling the Trigger
Chapter 488 Pulling the Trigger
An inexplicable emotion suddenly welled up in my heart—awe for Zheng Yaoxian, who never showed weakness. No matter how severe the wound, no matter how difficult the situation, this man always maintained an almost cold strength.
The two walked side by side, their steps unwavering. The moonlight cast long shadows behind them, as if telling them that the road ahead was still long and unknown. However, no matter what undercurrents lay ahead, Su Ming knew that they had reached the end of this road and would not turn back.
Zheng Yaoxian walked slowly, each step tinged with pain and fatigue. Yet he didn't stop, nor did he utter a single complaint. Instead, his eyes grew clearer, as if he had seen through everything.
"Don't worry, it's okay." He suddenly whispered.
Su Ming glanced at him, his brows furrowed. “You say it easily, but you can’t even take care of yourself in your current state.”
Zheng Yaoxian simply smiled and said nothing more. He knew the man before him was no longer able to persuade him. Everyone has their own choices, and his choice was to persevere.
Along the way, the two remained alert and silent. The night deepened, and a sense of danger hung in the air. Su Ming kept looking back, alert for any possible enemies. But when they reached the entrance of a dilapidated alley, a dark figure suddenly appeared before them.
It was a man dressed in black, holding a miniature pistol. In the darkness, he almost blended into the surrounding environment, moving so fast that it seemed as if he had already prepared for an ambush.
"Zheng Yaoxian." The man called out in a low voice, with a hint of cold threat in his voice.
Zheng Yaoxian's body stiffened for a moment, but then he turned abruptly, a cold glint in his eyes. He slowly raised his hand, and his fingers quickly grasped the hilt of the knife hidden behind his back.
"Go!" Su Ming growled quickly, pushed Zheng Yaoxian, and then drew his gun.
Su Ming's heartbeat suddenly accelerated, nearly bursting through his chest. Every nerve in his body reminded him that the situation before him had exceeded his expectations. The moment the dark figure appeared before them, countless judgments flashed through his mind almost instantly: the enemy was well prepared, with a clear target, and their number was unknown. He subconsciously wanted to push Zheng Yaoxian away and quickly escape with him, but before he could react, Zheng Yaoxian had already moved.
At that moment, Su Ming's anxiety and uneasiness were swallowed by a strong sense of crisis. Zheng Yaoxian's actions were completely unexpected. His injuries didn't slow him down; instead, it was as if some unknown force had unleashed an unprecedented burst of strength. His figure cut a sharp arc in the moonlight, like the gleam of a sharp knife, heading straight for the man in black.
Su Ming's thoughts nearly stopped at that moment, all his judgment and intuition disrupted by the sudden movement. He instinctively reached out, but couldn't grab anything. The situation before him was developing in an unpredictable direction. The man in black quickly pulled a pistol from his waist and pointed it threateningly at Zheng Yaoxian.
"Hurry!" Su Ming shouted, almost roaring, his anxiety the only sound. He made a decision almost instantly—no matter what the outcome, he had to rescue Zheng Yaoxian.
A sharp pain shot through his heart, nearly causing him to lose control. He knew there was more than one enemy before him, but he had no time to consider the details. Zheng Yaoxian, the man he always struggled to understand, was clearly in more danger than ever, and he simply couldn't stand by and watch.
The man in black sneered. Seeing Zheng Yaoxian approaching, he didn't retreat. Instead, he raised his gun. "Seeking death!" He spat out three words coldly, and before he finished speaking, the muzzle of the gun was pointed at Zheng Yaoxian.
A cold glint flashed in Su Ming's eyes, and he leaped to his feet, almost without hesitation. At that moment, his mind was devoid of any complex emotions, only a single, unwavering goal—rescue Zheng Yaoxian. Almost unconsciously, he drew his gun and pointed it at the man in black, ready to strike him.
However, Su Ming's heart sank as the man in black reacted incredibly quickly. At that instant, the enemy's gun barrel swung towards him. The moment his eyes met the gun's muzzle, time seemed to freeze.
"Su Ming, get out of the way!" Zheng Yaoxian's voice suddenly rang out, laced with urgency and calmness, a calmness that seemed like an instinctive reaction. He didn't turn around, didn't look back. He already knew Su Ming's location, and he knew the only thing he could do at this moment was to protect his partner.
However, Su Ming didn't have time to dwell on this. His movements had already reacted instinctively. His footsteps paused slightly, and his body quickly shifted to the right. Almost as he was sliding against the wall, he heard the sound of gunfire from behind him. His heart suddenly tightened, and cold sweat instantly broke out on his forehead. He looked down and could almost feel the bullet grazed his shoulder.
risk!
It felt like death whispering in his ear. Su Ming turned around abruptly, and before him was Zheng Yaoxian's serious and silent face. He still didn't stop, but with his eyes, he hinted to Su Ming not to hesitate and to keep going.
At that moment, Su Ming's mind was filled with only one voice: "Can't delay, can't stop, can't let him die here." Without a second thought, he aimed the gun at the black-clad man's chest and pulled the trigger without hesitation.
The bullet's penetrating power was merciless. The man in black was struck, his body trembling slightly, and then he fell to the ground, the gun in his hand dropping to the ground. Su Ming's movements did not pause for a moment, and he still did not turn back, his eyes fixed only on Zheng Yaoxian. Even though their figures had disappeared into the darkness, his inner vigilance could not be relaxed.
Zheng Yaoxian raised his hand and vigorously wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth. Although the gunshot wound was not fatal, it was still deep. Blood continued to seep from the wound, staining his clothes red. The pain had already spread throughout his body, but he remained calm and composed, not revealing any weakness.
"Don't do such dangerous things again." Su Ming's voice was low, but there was still a hint of anxiety in his eyes. He couldn't help but look at Zheng Yaoxian, and a nameless pain rose in his heart. Zheng Yaoxian's figure seemed increasingly thin in the moonlight, but the undeniable aura of determination made Su Ming almost unable to look away.
Zheng Yaoxian didn't respond, simply continuing forward in silence. As he walked, everything around him seemed to grow more silent and oppressive. He was no longer the reckless, effortless man. He was just a lone man, doing his utmost to survive and complete his mission.
