Chapter 484 Shouldn't Be Here
Chapter 484 Shouldn't Be Here
The outside world seemed to grow increasingly distant, and every movement in the air set his nerves on edge. Despite his best efforts to remain calm, his inner anxiety grew uncontrollable. In that moment, Su Ming was no longer the calm and decisive man of action he once was. Instead, he was trapped in a corner, besieged on all sides and unable to advance or retreat.
"I can't go back," he told himself silently, his eyes determined. "If I go back, I'll be walking into a trap. There's no chance."
But the road ahead was also filled with unknown dangers. The faint light at the exit was his only hope, yet the end of that passage seemed to conceal an even more terrifying threat. The enemy was approaching, and if he rushed in rashly, he might be surrounded or even killed on the spot.
"Master..." He murmured almost softly, as if seeking comfort from Zheng Yaoxian, but there was only silence in the earpiece. Zheng Yaoxian was not beside him, unable to offer guidance or support. All decisions had to be made by him alone.
Su Ming's eyes fixed on the exit, a complex mix of emotions swirling within him. That light represented freedom, his only chance to escape his predicament. However, this opportunity could also be a hopeless trap. With every step, he brushed shoulders with death.
"If I choose to continue forward, what if we're discovered by the enemy..." Su Ming gritted his teeth, cold sweat oozing from his forehead. He couldn't bear failure, nor did he want to be trapped in that hopeless situation again. The image of Zheng Yaoxian emerged in his mind; he was his only support, his only faith.
"If I keep going, I might find a glimmer of hope," he silently told himself, forcing himself to make a choice. At this moment, he felt like he was trapped in an endless vortex, unable to extricate himself. Whichever path he chose would involve unknown risks, and he had to find his own way out of this game.
Zheng Yaoxian's voice still didn't reach Su Ming's earpiece. He knew his master might have fallen into some kind of predicament, unable to provide timely assistance. All responsibility now rested on his shoulders. He had no way out and had to make a choice.
"If I go back, I might be discovered by the enemy, but if I keep going, maybe I can find support." Su Ming kept weighing this in his mind. His heartbeat grew faster and faster, and his head began to feel heavy, as if it were being pressed down by a huge rock.
Suddenly, footsteps were heard again, this time clear and rapid. Su Ming's body stiffened unconsciously, and his eyes quickly scanned the surroundings. He knew the enemy was not far away. If he didn't make a decisive move, he would be discovered.
"No more hesitation." Su Ming gritted his teeth, shoved the box beside him aside, and moved quickly toward the exit. He took every step carefully, trying not to make any noise. Even the ground beneath his feet was stepped on with care, afraid of making even the slightest sound.
Every step felt like walking towards the edge of death. Su Ming's heart was beating wildly, and he could almost feel the heavy pressure brought by every breath. The exit ahead seemed to be getting farther and farther away, but he knew he couldn't stop, he couldn't turn back.
Suddenly, hurried footsteps echoed from the darkness ahead, and Su Ming's heart sank. He quickly scanned the surroundings, searching for a place to hide. However, the passage was narrow, and there was virtually no hiding place. The only thing he could do was to keep moving forward and force his way through.
He gritted his teeth and rushed forward with all his might, practically running, his steps hurried and chaotic. Every time he stepped on the ground, a faint sound was heard, and Su Ming's heartbeat quickened in sync with the rhythm of his footsteps, as if the entire world was against him.
Just as he was about to approach the exit, a low growl suddenly came from behind him, followed by the sound of hurried footsteps. The enemy had discovered his whereabouts. Su Ming's heart sank suddenly, and every nerve in his body was reacting violently. He knew that if he didn't hurry, he would be surrounded and even killed on the spot.
"Damn it!" He cursed under his breath and rushed towards the exit with almost all his strength. Just when he was about to break through the passage, a strong hand grabbed his shoulder from behind.
"Stop!" A cold voice came from behind, carrying an unquestionable order.
Su Ming's heart nearly leaped into his throat. He spun around, a fierceness flashing in his eyes, ready to fight back. However, the enemy before him wasn't the hideous pursuer he'd expected, but a familiar figure—one he'd seen on countless missions.
Su Ming's heart nearly stopped for a moment, his eyes fixed on the familiar figure before him, as if time had stood still. The man stood before him, expressionless, his eyes cold, seemingly devoid of any emotion. Yet, Su Ming knew this man's identity was unusual. They had crossed paths countless times before, yet they had always maintained their distance.
"What are you doing here?" Su Ming asked in a low voice, a hint of caution in his tone. His hand had already quietly reached for the weapon at his waist, and a complex emotion surged in his heart. He had once trusted this person, but now he was unsure if he could continue to do so.
The man before him didn't answer immediately. Instead, he calmly glanced around, as if to confirm that no one else was around. This action made Su Ming even more nervous, and the situation became even more complicated. What did the enemy's sudden appearance mean? He couldn't be sure, but his intuition told him that this was no accident.
"You shouldn't be here." Su Ming spoke again, his voice low and warning.
"Do you think I want to be here?" The man finally spoke. His tone was calm, but there was a firmness in his voice that could not be ignored. "It's just a mission requirement, Su Ming."
Su Ming's eyes flickered slightly, but he didn't respond immediately. Instead, he quickly scanned his surroundings to confirm that there were no other enemies lying in ambush. He felt uneasy. Although the man before him had once fought alongside him, the current situation made it impossible for him to fully trust anyone.
"Mission?" Su Ming sneered, "Do you think I will believe what you said?"
The man didn't immediately refute, remaining calm, as if he was used to Su Ming's doubts. "You may not believe it, but the fact is, I have no choice. You and I are in the same predicament, Su Ming."
Su Ming's heart was in turmoil. He knew that what the other party said was not empty talk. In the current situation, he could not ignore the other party's existence. The enemy was gradually approaching.
