Chapter 203: Won in one fell swoop
Chapter 203: Won in one fell swoop
Su Ming stood on the edge of the rooftop, glancing down at the maze of alleyways below. He knew he was surrounded by enemies. The man in black was incredibly fast, catching up with him almost instantly. At this moment, Su Ming had no time to dwell. He gritted his teeth, swallowing the pain from his face, and leaped up again, using the nearby walls and rooftops to quickly maneuver.
The two men moved through the night like shadows, their speed almost impossible to follow. The alleyway was narrow and complex, and the darkness blurred their vision, but Su Ming's every step was incredibly precise. His mind was constantly working, analyzing his surroundings, searching for a glimmer of hope.
Su Ming knew he couldn't just passively escape anymore. He had to proactively create opportunities and strike back to find a way out. The enemy had clearly identified him as a target, and whether it was for the package or some other reason, the man in black wouldn't let him go easily. He needed to find a weakness in the pursuit.
"Still refusing to give up?" Su Ming glanced at the black-clad man in pursuit. He could sense the murderous aura growing stronger. Every time he slowed down, he felt the chill behind him grow closer, as if the Grim Reaper's scythe would strike at any moment.
"You can't escape, Su Ming." The man's voice sounded again behind him, with a sense of oppression.
"That's not necessarily true." Su Ming sneered inwardly. He had already formulated a simple plan in his mind. At the end of the alley not far ahead was a narrow dead end, its walls cluttered with debris and wires. While an ordinary person might consider this a hopeless situation, for Su Ming, it presented a chance to turn defeat into victory.
He suddenly exerted force on his feet, and his body accelerated again, rushing towards the dead end. The man in black saw this scene, and a sneer flashed in his eyes. He obviously thought Su Ming had no way out, and even quickened his pace, ready to force him into a desperate situation in one fell swoop.
However, just as Su Ming was about to crash into the wall, he suddenly recoiled, his feet shoving off, and swiftly scrambling up the cluttered debris. Like a nimble cat, he leaped to the top. Meanwhile, the man in black had already reached the end of the dead end. His blade slashed through the air, but missed Su Ming.
"Damn it!" the man in black cursed under his breath, clearly not expecting Su Ming to use the narrow terrain to escape his pursuit. A fierce look flashed in his eyes, and he quickly looked up to find Su Ming, only to find that he had already disappeared into the night.
Su Ming's breathing was slightly rapid, but his heart remained calm. He knew he had temporarily escaped the enemy's pursuit, but he must not let his guard down. This man in black was clearly more dangerous than he had imagined, and the conspiracy behind him was more complex. He quickly jumped off the other wall and entered a more secluded alley. After confirming that no one was following him, he breathed a sigh of relief.
He touched the wound on his face, the pain still palpable, but he had no time to care. The package was still in his hand, blood staining the outer cover, making it seem particularly heavy. Su Ming felt a vague sense of unease. The contents of this package might be even more dangerous and deadly than he imagined.
He leaned against a dilapidated wall, catching his breath for a moment as he reviewed everything that had just happened. Judging by the man in black's methods and attitude, this pursuit was no accident. He seemed to have extensive intelligence on him, perhaps even knowing his movements better than he did. What did this mean? Someone was secretly monitoring him, perhaps even pre-emptively aware of his every move.
"Who's betraying me?" Su Ming's mind once again pondered that nagging question. He had yet to decipher the details of this betrayal. The package might hold the key to unlocking it all, but it could also push him into even greater danger.
The wound on Su Ming's face still ached. The blood had dried, forming a shallow scab. The slight sting kept his nerves tense. Even after escaping the pursuit, he still couldn't feel safe, as if an invisible danger could loom again at any moment.
The night wind chilled as Su Ming moved swiftly, passing through one narrow alley after another, finally stopping in front of an old building. While seemingly ordinary, this place was the meeting place he had agreed to meet with his master. Su Ming glanced around cautiously, confirming there were no other suspicious figures before gently pushing open the half-closed door.
Behind the door was a narrow staircase leading down to a dimly lit basement. The light bulb above the staircase glowed faintly, its current unstable, flickering, illuminating the worn steps. Su Ming's heartbeat gradually calmed, but the tension remained. He knew he was in an extremely dangerous situation; any wrong decision could have fatal consequences.
"I'm coming." A deep voice came from the end of the stairs, carrying a heavy, oppressive feeling. It was Su Ming's master, a mysterious man who spoke few words and always maintained a calm and unfathomable demeanor.
Su Ming nodded slightly, remaining silent. He gently descended the last few steps and entered the dimly lit basement. The place was cramped and shabby, its walls made of bare concrete, a cold, lifeless presence. A few old machines sat on the table, and a corner was cluttered with messy documents and equipment. A musty smell hung in the air, as if it had been neglected for a long time.
The master stood by the table, his eyes deep, staring at an open document, his expression gloomy and calm.
"Where's the package?" The master's voice was still without any emotion, as if this was just an ordinary mission.
Su Ming slowly pulled the package from his arms, his expression slightly tense. The pursuit had made him realize the importance of this package, but it also made him more aware that it could be a double-edged sword, capable of unlocking the truth but also bringing destruction.
"Here," he whispered, handing over the package.
The master reached out and took the package steadily. His movements were as calm as ever, without any unnecessary emotion, as if he was holding just an ordinary item.
Su Ming watched his master open the package silently, his doubts growing. He didn't know what was hidden inside, but he could sense that this moment could change everything he knew.
The package was carefully unfolded, revealing the folder inside. The thick paper looked yellowed and the corners were a little damaged, obviously having been baptized by the years.
